COVID-19     Spring/Summer Remote Learning

Update:  On site Spring Classes are cancelled due to the Coronavirus.  A continuous spring/summer online course sequence is being finalized.   Startup activities will begin June 8.  Course sequence will begin week of June 15.

Many of you have reached out to me over the last several months to ask when I'm starting back up; telling me things like "my kids are going stir crazy" or "when can they start robotics again".  I hear you and haven't forgotten about them.

I've been getting ready to support your students remotely.  Learning the technology(Zoom), testing remote usability, working with my teaching assistants, cleaning and getting robot kits ready.  We're getting close to start now.

Here is my current plan:
  • Functional Group options:
    • Robots - Graphical Programming
    • Robots -  MicroPython programming
    • Coding - Python
    • Coding - Scratch
  • Combination of block time(same day/time, repeating) and check in time(some flexibility as needed)
  • Most functional groups will have similar building/programming challenges through the weeks
  • Some robot challenges will require your assistance
    • for example:  Steepest slope climb will need a flat board to incline.  Line Following will require some electrical tape.
  • Individualized or Advanced instruction/methods will be tailored to each advanced student
  • All instruction will include some one on one time with students
  • A limited number of laptops are available to families
  • Approximately 30 EV3 robot kits are available for loan during this time
Some things may work better(Programming/Coding classes and continuous feedback throughout week).   While some will be more challenging (physical instruction, mechanical troubleshooting).  Regardless, I can assure you all that STEM Robotix will bring the same level of commitment to working with your kids remotely that we have done in person.
